BASIDMA, FERMA Step Up Joint Effort to Repair Roads Nationwide
The Bauchi State Infrastructure Development and Maintenance Agency (BASIDMA) and the Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA) have reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing inter-agency collaboration in a bid to improve Nigeria’s road infrastructure and transport safety.
The renewed partnership was the outcome of a courtesy visit by BASIDMA’s Director-General, Engr. Abdulrahman A. Mai Auduga, to FERMA’s Managing Director, Dr. Chukwuemeka Agbasi, at the agency’s headquarters in Abuja.
Discussions centred on strengthening technical cooperation, with both agencies identifying key areas such as staff capacity building, knowledge exchange, and joint projects aimed at improving the quality and sustainability of the country’s road networks.
Engr. Mai Auduga stressed the urgent need for collaborative efforts to address the persistent challenges facing road maintenance, particularly at the state level.
He expressed BASIDMA’s interest in leveraging FERMA’s national experience to boost local infrastructure delivery.
“We believe that partnership and knowledge sharing are critical to achieving long-term infrastructural growth,” he said.
“Our goal is to align efforts with FERMA and adopt best practices that will enhance the condition and safety of our roads.”
Dr. Agbasi welcomed the initiative, describing it as a timely step towards more unified infrastructure development.
He pledged FERMA’s full support for the collaboration, noting its potential to drive both economic development and safer road travel.
“This is a welcome development,” he stated. “By pooling our resources and technical know-how, we can raise the standard of road development and make a meaningful impact in the lives of citizens.”
The two agencies concluded the meeting with a mutual agreement to establish a formal framework for future cooperation.
The framework will serve as a guide for upcoming joint initiatives and sustained partnership in road development and maintenance.
The move marks a positive shift towards a more strategic, coordinated approach to solving Nigeria’s critical infrastructure needs, especially as road networks remain central to economic connectivity and safety across the nation.
