Governor Bala Mohammed Flags Off Massive Child Immunisation Drive, Targets 2.2 Million in Bauchi

Governor Bala Mohammed | State Government Ramps Up Efforts to Protect Under-Five Kids from Deadly Diseases
The Bauchi State Government has officially launched the June 2025 round of the National Immunization Plus Days (NIPDs) campaign.
The goal?
To vaccinate 2.2 million under-five children across the state and reduce the number of children with zero-dose immunization status, that is, kids who haven’t received a single vaccine shot.
The flag-off ceremony took place at the palace of the district head of Miri, Bauchi LGA, where eligible children were given their vaccines right on the spot.
Immunisation Saves Lives | Health Commissioner
Speaking at the event, Dr. Sani Muhammad Dambam, Commissioner of Health, highlighted the importance of immunization in reducing child deaths and preventing diseases such as polio and measles.
“We’ve put in place a solid plan to make sure this campaign reaches every child in every corner of the state,” Dr. Dambam said.
“Parents and caregivers must make it a duty to get their children immunised.”
Campaign to Cover Communities, Schools, and Health Centres
Also speaking, Dr. Rilwanu Mohammed, Executive Chairman of the Bauchi State Primary Healthcare Development Board (BSPHCDB), explained that the four-day campaign will involve mobile teams moving through:
-
Communities
-
Schools
-
Health centres
“This campaign isn’t just about giving vaccines,” Dr. Rilwanu said.
“It’s about making sure no child is left behind. Our goal is full coverage, and we’re working with partners to make it happen.”
He reaffirmed that the government is committed to improving child health and reducing deaths from vaccine-preventable diseases.
Community Support and Call for Better Health Facilities
In a show of gratitude, the District Head of Miri, Alhaji Hussaini Abubakar Uthman, applauded the state’s effort and urged for more investment in rural healthcare.
“This immunisation drive is a huge step for our children’s future. But we also hope the government will upgrade our primary health centre into a cottage hospital to serve us better,” he said.

-
World Health Organization (WHO)
