Bauchi State Government Commended for 100% Immunisation Budget Delivery

Bauchi State Government Commended for Boosting Child Health Through Consistent Immunisation Support

The Bauchi State Government has been lauded for its 100% payment of counterpart immunization funding for two straight years, 2023 and 2024, a move that experts say reflects deep political will and commitment to saving children’s lives across the state.

This recognition came during the unveiling and validation of the 2023/2024 Immunization Scorecard, held at the Polio Emergency Operations Center (EOC) in Bauchi.

The event was hosted by the Zero Dose Learning Hub (ZDLH) Community of Practice, with support from the African Health Budget Network (AHBN).

Scorecard Shows Strong Financial Commitment from Bauchi

The scorecard tracks progress in budget allocation, fund disbursement, and service delivery.

Bauchi scored high on multiple fronts, especially for its full funding of the immunization basket fund, a critical pool that supports routine vaccines for children.

“This is a bold step in strengthening routine immunisation,” said Dr. Hassan Shuaibu, AHBN State Lead.
“The 10-page scorecard breaks down performance in budget transparency, financial accountability, and service delivery key areas that affect vaccine access.”

Partnerships Driving Progress in Immunisation Coverage

Speaking at the session, Dr. Rilwanu Mohammed, Executive Chairman of the Bauchi State Primary Healthcare Development Board (BSPHCDB), stressed the role of strong collaboration in achieving these results.

“This report is the product of teamwork between the state and our MoU partners. It helps us understand where we are, what’s working, and where to improve,” he said.

He highlighted that 13 local government areas still have children with zero-dose immunization status, meaning they’ve never received any vaccines.

“That’s unacceptable. We must tackle this together. I urge parents and community leaders to support our efforts. Immunisation is safe, free, and life-saving.”

Stakeholders Call for Continuous Monitoring and Action

The event gathered voices from across the healthcare landscape:

  • Dr. Adamu Mohammed, ZDLH CoP Chairman, called for deeper partner engagement and regular scorecard reviews.

  • Jinjiri Garba, CSO’s co-chairman, emphasized the need for transparency and local ownership of immunization efforts.

  • Dr. Habila Ismaila, AFENET State Lead, appreciated AHBN’s technical and budgetary support that led to the comprehensive scorecard.

They all agreed: the scorecard isn’t just paperwork; it’s a policy tool that will shape advocacy, accountability, and real-time decisions.

Key Highlights from the Scorecard:

  • 100% payment of state counterpart immunisation funding for both 2023 and 2024

  • Focus on transparency, service delivery, and accountability

  • Identification of 13 LGAs with zero-dose children

  • Multi-stakeholder validation before public release

  • The scorecard is divided into: Budget Summary, Health Financing & Accountability, and Service Delivery & Transparency

Conclusively

Under Governor Bala Mohammed’s leadership, Bauchi is proving that when a government matches political will with action, even the toughest health challenges can be tackled.

The state’s full financial support for immunization is not just a budget line; it’s a statement of intent to protect every child, no matter where they live.

As Bauchi strengthens its systems and expands access to vaccines, the real winners are the families who now have a better shot at raising healthy, thriving children.
