Reports of Bauchi Governor’s Alleged Move to APC Described as False

A media advocacy group, Kaura Independent Communication, has dismissed as false reports circulating on social media claiming that the Governor of Bauchi State, Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, has defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In a statement made available to journalists, the group described the claim as misleading, saying a post allegedly shared on the Facebook page of Arise TV and reproduced by several online platforms was fabricated.

According to the group, the governor remains a committed member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and has given no indication that he plans to leave the party.

Rumours Circulating Since 2019

The organisation said similar rumours have surfaced repeatedly since 2019, alleging that political opponents have continued to circulate the claims in an attempt to mislead the public and create uncertainty within the party.

“We urge members of the public to disregard the report and the rumours being circulated. The story is false and should be treated as such,” the statement said.

The group added that any official political decision involving the governor would be communicated through recognised and verified channels.

Calls for Verification

Kaura Independent Communication also thanked party members and supporters who contacted the group to verify the authenticity of the report before sharing it further.

Observers say misinformation on social media has increasingly become a feature of Nigeria’s political environment, particularly as political activity gradually begins to intensify ahead of future elections.

Focus on Party Activities

While dismissing the rumours, the group encouraged members and supporters of the PDP to remain focused on party activities, including the ongoing electronic membership registration exercise taking place across Bauchi State.

The statement also reaffirmed what it described as the commitment of Governor Bala Mohammed and the PDP leadership to strengthening the party’s structures and mobilising supporters ahead of future political engagements.
