Bauchi Commissioner Yakubu Adamu Covers School Fees for Local Student
The Commissioner for Finance in Bauchi State, Hon. Yakubu Adamu, has paid the registration fees of a student at the Sir Abubakar Tafawa College of Education Kangere, in what aides describe as part of his support for access to education.
The beneficiary, identified as Ɗan Gokaru, is said to be a supporter of Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed. According to associates, the intervention followed concerns about his inability to complete his registration due to financial constraints.
Speaking after the payment was confirmed, the student expressed appreciation to the commissioner, describing the assistance as timely. He said the support came at a difficult moment and offered prayers for the commissioner.
Hon. Adamu, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has not issued a formal statement on the gesture. However, associates say the intervention reflects his personal commitment to supporting young people pursuing higher education.
Political observers in the state say such acts of assistance are not uncommon among public office holders, particularly in contexts where constituents often seek individual support for education and welfare needs. They note that while supporters view the move as compassionate, critics argue that broader institutional reforms remain essential to address systemic funding challenges in the education sector.
Community members and party supporters have welcomed the development, describing it as an example of responsive leadership.
The incident comes amid ongoing discussions in Bauchi State about youth empowerment and access to tertiary education.
