In a sweeping move to strengthen his administration’s reach, Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has approved the appointment of 168 political aides.

A decision tagged as part of efforts to boost service delivery and widen government inclusion.

The announcement, made on Tuesday by the governor’s media adviser, Mukhtar Gidado, outlines a layered structure of new appointees ranging from principal special assistants to personal assistants.

Most of whom are reportedly seasoned hands in the political space.

What the Breakdown Looks Like:

  • 5 Principal Special Assistants on Political & Community Relations

  • 1 Principal Special Assistant on Pension Matters

  • 1 Senior Special Assistant on Labour Matters

  • 60 Special Assistants on Political & Community Relations

  • 63 Personal Assistants in the same category

That’s not just a long list—it’s a full political ecosystem.

Gidado clarified that the appointments were merit-based, aiming to reflect Bauchi’s diverse political and community makeup.

The goal, he says, is to build inclusivity and connect the government closer to the grassroots.

Most of the new aides are former officeholders, names familiar with the terrain.

Their selection is pegged on track records, political footing, and perceived leadership capacity.

More Than Just Numbers?

Governor Mohammed urged the appointees to take their roles seriously—loyalty, dedication, and a people-first approach are the watchwords.

According to him, this expansion isn’t just about filling seats; it’s about consolidating past gains and keeping momentum toward sustainable development.

Still, for observers, the volume of appointments could stir conversations around cost, efficiency, and bureaucratic size.

But for now, the government insists it’s about governance reach, not just expansion for expansion’s sake.
