Bauchi Governor Hosts U.S. Embassy Delegation, Calls for Deeper Ties and Investment

The Governor of Bauchi State, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, has hosted a delegation from the United States Embassy in Nigeria, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to fostering international cooperation and attracting foreign investment.

The meeting, which took place at the Governor’s Lodge in Abuja, follows earlier discussions between the governor and the U.S. Ambassador during a session of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum.

The U.S. delegation was led by Mr. Tim Smith, Acting Deputy Chief of Mission, alongside Ms. Cassandra Carraway, a Political Officer at the Embassy.

Governor Mohammed used the engagement to outline the progress his administration has made since taking office in 2019. He provided an overview of inherited challenges and the series of reforms introduced to reposition Bauchi for long-term development.

Key achievements highlighted include extensive infrastructural development, the establishment of primary healthcare centres across all wards, and the construction of modern classrooms to enhance access to quality education.

The governor also pointed to improvements in security and efforts to significantly reduce the number of out-of-school children in the state.

He noted that Bauchi State has witnessed a notable increase in Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), attributing the growth to strategic reforms, prudent financial management, and improved administrative processes.

According to him, these gains have strengthened the state’s economic base and enhanced its appeal to investors.

“I believe Bauchi State presents a promising destination for investment, particularly in key sectors like agriculture, education, healthcare, and renewable energy,” Governor Mohammed said.

“We are committed to creating an enabling environment that encourages private sector participation and international collaboration.”

The U.S. officials welcomed the governor’s remarks and expressed interest in exploring areas of mutual cooperation aligned with local development priorities and American foreign engagement strategies in Nigeria.

The visit is seen as part of broader efforts to deepen U.S.-Nigeria subnational relations and underscores growing international recognition of Bauchi State’s reform-focused governance agenda and its emerging role as a centre for sustainable development in Northern Nigeria.
