PDP Leaders Meet in Abuja to Strategize Ahead of 2027 Elections

Governors elected under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), alongside key stakeholders and former leaders, gathered in Abuja on Monday for the fifth strategic meeting of the PDP Governors’ Forum (PDP-GF), marking a significant step in the party’s early preparations for the 2027 general elections.
The high-level meeting took place at the Bauchi State Governor’s Lodge in Asokoro and was chaired by Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, Governor of Bauchi State and Chairman of the Forum.
This year’s session, formally titled the “2025/5th PDP-GF Forum Meeting,” recorded an expanded turnout. It included current governors, members of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC), and several influential former governors.
Key issues on the agenda included strategies for national unity, internal party cohesion, and plans to reposition the PDP as a leading political force ahead of the next election cycle.
Governors in attendance were:
- Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed (Bauchi)
- Dr. Agbu Kefas (Taraba)
- Rt. Hon. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri (Adamawa)
- Dr. Dauda Lawal (Zamfara)
- Senator Ademola Adeleke (Osun)
- Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah (Enugu)
- Barr. Caleb Mutfwang (Plateau)
- Engr. Seyi Makinde (Oyo)
- Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, Deputy Governor of Bayelsa (representing Governor Douye Diri)
Also present were Dr. Emmanuel Agbo, Director-General of the PDP Governors’ Forum, and members of the PDP National Working Committee led by Acting National Chairman, Ambassador Iliya Damagum.
The meeting attracted a strong lineup of former governors and senior party figures, underlining a wider push to foster intergenerational collaboration and restore party unity.
Notable among them were former Senate President Dr. Bukola Saraki and ex-governors Dr. Ibrahim Shekarau (Kano), Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia), Senator Ahmed Makarfi (Kaduna), and Nyesom Wike (Rivers).
In their deliberations, party leaders stressed the importance of internal democracy, issue-based politics, and strategic consensus as pillars for the PDP’s return to national relevance.
A communiqué summarising the meeting’s resolutions is expected to be released, outlining the party’s roadmap and next steps.
Political observers say the PDP is intensifying efforts to rebuild its base, mend past divisions, and expand its national appeal as it sets its sights on reclaiming leadership in 2027.
